Vibram FiveFingers Cause Metatarsal Stress Fractures? Due to the increased usage of the "minimalist shoe", Vibram FiveFinger, there seems to be an increasing number of reports of metatarsal stress fractures occurring due to running in these shoes. However, since both Dan Lieberman, PhD and Chris McDougall, author of "Born to Run" are pushing these shoes as a "barefoot alternative" running shoe, then maybe they should both be a little concerned about the potentially serious injuries they are causing in runners by suggesting they run in these shoes. Which laser have you used with success for mycotic nails? I've been reading the discussion on lasers being used to treat nail fungus and continue to find more and more claims of success with a wide variety of laser types and companies who offer them. I'm not looking for research based evidence at this point, just good 'ol "been working for me for years" evidence. Severe ankle equinus and diastasis I have a very active sixty-one year-old female with severe ankle equinus following failed soft tisue release as a child for asymetrical TEV. Rx to date has been a variety of compressed felt crescent pads which fit over the bursae on her lateral mallelous on which she weighbears. I have an interesting set of radiographs which I will try and upload later, but as can be seen, there is gross deformation of the rearfoot with a relatively normal forefoot anatomy. Mosaic verrucae-help with treatment I have successfully used, what I call, the "multiple puncture technique" for treating mosaic verrucae. Under local anesthesis, take a 18 gauge hypodermic needle and punch through the skin to the subcutaneous fat about 100 times to the worst of the "mother lesions" (lesions with worse appearance) of the mosaic verrucae. Bleeding should occur at each puncture hole. Then place a bandage on the foot for 12 hours with the patient bathing normally the next day. The patient has only slight soreness in the area the following day. Surgeons angry over lack of Medicare access "Orthopaedic surgeons are better equipped to manage complications, have a better understanding of post-operative protocol, and have a better knowledge of pharmacological management."Says who? Unless I am mistaken the ACPS training program undertaken by podiatric surgical registrars is similar to that performed by orthopaedic surgical registrars. The main difference is that podiatric surgical registrars don't get paid for their training. |
"Foot and Ankle Injection Techniques" provides the student and practising podiatrist with all they need to understand when, how and what to inject. To support the clinician and student, the text covers: changes in legislation; the full range of injectable drugs available to the practitioner; and, essential information on nerve physiology, drug action, equipment, patient selection, injection techniques and many other topics.
