Another bl....y outcome measure for the foot

Does anyone share my frustraton at the plethora of outcome tools that have been developed for the foot? When will it stop? When will people actually stop developing them and start doing research that actually uses them?

Alfredson Protocol for achilles paratenonitis

Is this protocol recommended for achilles paratenonitis (diagnosed via Ultrasound, previous MRI some weeks before was normal)? Is it also any good for reactive tenosynovitis of the flexor hallucis longus (significant fluid via MRI)?

Why are so many gifted athletes pigeon-toed?

While there’s no real research clearly defining the relationship with being pigeon-toed and being a good athlete, there is quite a bit of anecdotal and indirect research evidence to support the notion. In fact, many coaches in sports like football, basketball, soccer and track actually look for pigeon-toed athletes to join their teams. This is because there seems to be a disproportionate number of fast athletes who are pigeon-toed.

When Will Runners Reach the Limit of Human Endurance?

Running and swimming records are broken again and again at almost every international athletics event. But, can human performance continue to improve indefinitely? Will runners continue to accelerate off the starting blocks and reach the finish line in faster and faster times? Will swimmers always be able to dive into the record books with a quicker kick?

Physical stress theory

All, I found this today while looking for something else. I think this should be a must read for all podiatrists with an interest in biomechanics

Vibram FiveFingers Cause Metatarsal Stress Fractures?

Due to the increased usage of the "minimalist shoe", Vibram FiveFinger, there seems to be an increasing number of reports of metatarsal stress fractures occurring due to running in these shoes. However, since both Dan Lieberman, PhD and Chris McDougall, author of "Born to Run" are pushing these shoes as a "barefoot alternative" running shoe, then maybe they should both be a little concerned about the potentially serious injuries they are causing in runners by suggesting they run in these shoes.

"Foot and Ankle Injection Techniques" provides the student and practising podiatrist with all they need to understand when, how and what to inject. To support the clinician and student, the text covers: changes in legislation; the full range of injectable drugs available to the practitioner; and, essential information on nerve physiology, drug action, equipment, patient selection, injection techniques and many other topics.
