Sensitive/propriocep...

I love to run in a heel-striking fashion. In fact, in my younger days, I ran a number of sub 2:35 marathons heel-striking happily along the way. If heel striking is so bad for everyone, then why do 80-90% of runners do it?

Things you never want to hear from podiatry patients

"What do you mean the shoes are causing the problem? Ther're good shoes, they were really expensive."

Management of plantar fibromatosis

I am looking for some advice for a patient that presented to me for assessment a few weeks ago. He is a 39 year old male who is very active - predominantly running and triathalons. Was running and noticed a sharp pain in the sole of his right foot 'felt like i had been shot'. He visited a physio who treated him for plantar fasciitis - stretching, massage, post night splints etc to no avail.

Ankle arthrodesis vs athroplasty and quality of life

Ten patients who underwent successful right ankle arthrodesis were evaluated using a driving simulator as well as an in-shoe pedobarographic measuring system. Brake reaction time, braking force, peak pressure, contact area, and the center of force between the foot and the brake pedal were recorded.

Embarassing Bodies TV show - girl with varrucas found to have immune disorder

I apologise if this has already been posted and discussed here, but I came across this video on You Tube and I found it so fascinating I had to share. This young girl came to the TV show doctor with debilitating verrucas covering both feet. After all the doctors she had seen apparently he was the first one to suggest testing of her immune system.
Important Historical Biomechanics Papers

I remember starting the CCPM fellowship and someone asking me what where did I learn the most biomechanics. I said it was
Hicks JH: The mechanics of the foot IV. .I remember coming back to this paper months later for a second read and being amazed at how much good stuff that I missed. I even picked up more in the third read.

Podiatry care without a podiatrist?

This link came up on the Podiatry Arena web site on the Forum general issues page.Hover your mouse over ORTHOTICS and the word Podiatry appears. However checking their site reveals that there are no podiatrists on staff.
Are they permitted to do this?

There is no barefoot running debate

Following my recent discussions with Irene Davis at the Australasian Podiatry Conference and discussion with delegates about her presentations, I have decided that there really is no barefoot running debate or controversy, or at least in the way that the debate has been framed.I do not know a single podiatrist who is opposed to barefoot running! I would love to know where people are getting there information from that Podiatrists are opposed to it. I think pretty much all podiatrists would agree that all runners, at whatever level they are at, should incorporate at least some barefoot drills into their training.

"Foot and Ankle Injection Techniques" provides the student and practising podiatrist with all they need to understand when, how and what to inject. To support the clinician and student, the text covers: changes in legislation; the full range of injectable drugs available to the practitioner; and, essential information on nerve physiology, drug action, equipment, patient selection, injection techniques and many other topics.
