Remember the internet
bubble that burst a while back? It was the unrealistic expectations
associated with that euphoria that lead to some of the problems
today. The mentality back then was "build a website that
costs a lot of money and the masses will come". It was
never true. What is wrong with a lot of websites out there?
1)
There was unrealistic expectations associated with what the web
site would do (there were expectations that never eventuated about
the number of new appointments that would come; a number of Podiatrist's
web sites spent money on ecommerce sections to the site and never
actually sold a single product!!)
2)
The sites were not friendly to search engines, so they did not
rank very well, so potential patients can not find the site (no
matter how good the site was). The use of graphics, pictures and
Flash media can not be seen by search engines.
3)
Directories that list websites (eg the Open Directory Project)
generally only list websites that have valuable and unique content
(ie they add value to the directory). How much content there is
on the web site is important. Search engines love content, that
is because searchers want information and not pretty pictures
and animation.
